Whenever talking about tires which could be used for anything like a bicycle, a motorcycle, a car, an SUV, a truck or a van or even an airplane you cannot ignore Dunlop tires. Dunlop Tires was the first tire manufacturing company in the world going back as 1880. Because of this company we all enjoy tires on our numerous forms of transports, because if it didn’t existed we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the luxuries we enjoy today. But how exactly did it start? How exactly did it become the way it is today and what were some of the innovations made along the way? These are the questions that are no doubts going through your mind right now, which I will attempt to answer. Let us begin.

Going back to 1888 when the first tires were made by John Boyd Dunlop for his son’s tricycle. In 1889 the cyclist Willie Hume uses Dunlop’s innovation for racing and wins a slew of events. In 10902 Dunlop wins the Paris-Vienna race. 1923 recorded the first Grand Prix victory for Dunlop and 1924 it has the first victory in Le Mans. In 1927 Captain Malcolm Campbell breaks all land speed records going as fast as 207 mph using Dunlop tires. In 1937 Dunlop wins the Le Mans for the 10th time now. In 1950s Dunlop teams up with Jaguar and starts a series of unprecedented wins in the 24 hours Le Mans. It is 1958 and Dunlop more or less owns Formula 1 and in 1962 it develops the cure for cars slipping at high speeds in wet roads and 1965 marks the time when Dunlop has won Formula 1 for seven consecutive times. The year is now 1998 when Dunlop develops the Dunlop Self-Supporting Technology which allows vehicles to continue driving even on a flat tire and in 1999 Warnair is introduced which is the first tire-pressure loss detection system with sensors that are incorporated into the tire itself. In the year 2000 Dunlop integrates into Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. 2003 marks the time when Dunlop becomes the sole tire supplier to the British Grand Touring Championship. In 2008 an Audi 14 Quattro equipped with Dunlop tires sets the world speed record of 204.7 mph for a climate-neutral vehicle. Countless years of innovation and improvement have made Dunlop one of the oldest, finest and the largest tire manufacturers in the world today as its tires are used from daily life use to all the over in high performance racing.

So that was a short history of the tire manufacturer Dunlop, now you know how the oldest and one of the biggest tire makers in the world came to be and how it got to where it is today. Next time you buy some tires you’ll know that what this company has accomplished, if anything you can just impress your friends and your mechanic. Always remember to take care of your vehicle, make sure everything is in good condition specially your tires and drive safe.
