Lets just go ahead and admit it, we all love all things automobiles. Whether its as simple as a moped or as elegant and powerful as a supercar, we love them. But while it is important to recognize our love for them, its also important to keep in mind that they would not have been around if the tire hadn’t been invented. That’s right, the tire is one of the most important parts of a vehicle, without it you just have an engine that makes noise and belts out smoke. And today we discuss one of the most famous and biggest tire manufacturers in the world, known as Goodyear.

It all started in 1898 when the first factory opened up in Akron Ohio with 13 employees who made bicycle and carriage tires amongst other things, the company grew when automobiles were made. In 1909 Goodyear made its first aircraft tire, and in 1911 it started experimentation with its airship design which was later used for production of airships and observation balloons by the US Army Air Services during World War 1. By 1926, it was the largest rubber company in the world. In 1927 it had its first public offering and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. By 1930 they pioneered tundra tires which were made for smaller aircraft. Over the course of the next 60 years the company grew to become a multinational corporation with multibillion dollar earnings. When the Radial tire came on the scene the company was faced with problems as people were not accepting of the company producing them, however in 1974 the company made a major investment in technology and the tire which has a 100% market share currently. Due to the actions made in 1974 the company survived otherwise it wouldn’t have been able to do so. The company saw good business locally and overseas after that. In 1991 the company underwent major reconstructing in order to expand the company to new markets; the move resulted in 12,000 employs being fired. In 2005 Titan Tire purchased the farm tire business of Goodyear and continues producing tires under its license. In 2008 It was recognized as one of the most respected companies by the Reputation Institute and Forbes Magazine. It has been under a lot of controversy over the years and has taken numerous threats, but the company lives on despite them and continues to expands as one of the biggest tire makers in the world.

So that’s it folks, that was the history of the tire makers known as Goodyear. As you can see, not an easy journey for them, but they made it through. You now have knowledge which you can use to impress people in your life, if anything take it as a deeper moral lesson that no matter what happens, keep strong and head on. As always, take care of your ride and specially the tire. Make sure everything’s in order, follow the laws and drive safe.
